Verónica Vidal Degiorgis

Verónica Vidal Degiorgis is a feminist activist and a women human rights defender. Born in Argentina and raised in neighboring Uruguay, she has lived in Mexico City for the past 20 years. She holds a Bachelor in International Relations, Law Faculty at the University of the Republic in Uruguay and an M.A, in International Cooperation for Development from the Research Institute José María Luis Mora in México.
With over 20 years of experience on human rights work, she has focused her career on women's rights, particularly on feminist research on the funding landscape for feminists and women’s rights organizations and movements; feminist approach to protection for women human rights defenders; network creation and alliance building of women human rights defenders, feminist philanthropy and international and regional advocacy. She has worked for several NGOs in Uruguay and Mexico, held several positions at The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID), was Deputy Director of ProDESC in Mexico, consultant, advisor and Program Director at Global Fund for Women and Senior Specialist on Women Human Rights Defenders at UN Women Regional Office for the Americas and The Caribbean Regional.
While at AWID, she was coordinator of the IM-Defensoras' Mesoamerican Registry of Attacks to Women Human Rights Defenders between 2014 and 2019. She has carried out advocacy work at the UN level and provided accompaniment to dozens of women human rights defenders at risk.
Verónica holds several positions as Board Member: Frontline Defenders (2018-present), Funders Initiative for Civil Society (2023- present), Initiative for Transnational Justice (2023 - present)
She is an active individual member of the Women Human Rights Defenders National Network in Mexico and the Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition (WHRD -IC)
